Hey Drone Boy

Ok, I didn’t know drones were considered a nerd toy… :dontknow: Been jokingly called that twice so far but it’s ok, I’m good. :/ Anyway, FPV drones are a little different than your typical drone by about, a 1000%. You strap those goggles on and I tell ya, you feel like you’re flying. The flying was easier than figuring out how to get the footage out to view. But, I managed the first one and hopefully future videos will be more interesting.

I’m hoping the vid quality will improve when it’s finished checking the checks IYKWIM. Check the cog dial.

I’ve been out there a few times with it but, it’s a better location for a smaller bike. :revit:

That's some concentration right there

3d huh! :5146:  :4323:

Talk about concentration, my daughter convinced me to let her try it.  Within minutes she got it tangled in a tree about sixty feet up. Now, it was tangled but still flying if you can picture that. I quickly grabbed the goggles off her to see “ what the drone was seeing” and flew it through a small opening in the branches. I’m sure I had the tongue out, head tilt thing going on! :P

I'm pretty sure you're better than the average bear, Pat!  I have trouble seeing my phone screen when flying, so just eyeball navigation here....:90:

Even fire suppression specialist can be nerds......keep working at it, and you can be a powerpoint commander like all these engineers that I work with.

I’ve got a ways to go before they let me Video Here. Some expensive crash damage I suspect. @roadscholar would probably have a better idea but I bet they’re flying around a hundred million dollars worth of machinery.

I’m flying at the “tease the dog” level, of course (under the guise of exercising) him. :classic_biggrin: I won’t be chuckling if and when he chomps down on it! :ohboy:

Hey Pat, you never showed the part when the drone landed.   Did Rex get some?   Or did you land it in the back of the truck?   .........inquiring minds.     :dontknow:

I had the goggles set to head tracking and when I lifted them up to land, you just saw sky. I lifted them so I could watch Rex. ;)

So, my brother who lives on the next street over on kind of connected property, needed to get me a piece of paperwork yesterday. I was thinking about the “fish drop” picture in the above post and did this. I flew to his back deck and he attached the envelope and I few it back. :classic_biggrin: I think someone snapped a pic of him attaching it to the drone but I haven’t seen it yet.

EDIT @chrisolson anybody know why those “type in the characters” appeared in the above post where I had a YouTube vid? I didn’t add them. :dontknow:

EDIT 2

disregard the first edit, the video is back. But, just so you don’t think I’m “all in” crazy this is what appeared.

That's kind of fun!

Just a little info, a drone must remain within eyesight of the operator without a special operators license. Wouldn't want you to get in trouble with the FAA! Stoopid rules.

  • Thanks 1

Yeah, there were eyes on it but I agree, stupid no fun rules suck!

Thanks for that, John.  It reminded me to take the TRUST course that I have been puting off.   Done.   Downloaded the certificate.  I figured I would get my drone out and play around with it, as it has been a minute since I last used it.   FYI, flying a test flight in the house, down the hall and in/out of rooms is not recommended for brushing up on one's skills.  It took me a few minutes to remember how to power everything up and get her flying.   I took it outside for some better safer practice.   I have 3 batteries and it seems that they were not fully charged.   I went through them real quick!   Now I wait whilst all of them charge up in the triple charger, one at a time.

I spoke with the nice check in lady and said I’m almost sure it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission but, can I take a few pictures with my drone? Oh, go ahead, a lot of people (well some she corrected herself) do it, often. I love this place!

We were gearing up to ride it yesterday afternoon when several Ricky Racers went by the back of the Inn. Sounded nice, if you like that sort of thing.:revit:

Anyway, three corners in we roll by as they were lifting one of the bikes off the ground. There didn’t appear to be injuries and nobody was waving at us for help so we continued on.

Still a dangerous creature road I guess! :spittake:

BMW needs to offer a drone package with their GS motorcycles. Where’s that road go? IDK,  let me look. ;)

You place the turtle on the side of the road to which it was traveling, or wait til it crosses.

I wonder why it crossed the road?   :burnout:

Spoiler

He didn't!   Pat drug his a## down thr road, far away.  Very far.

So, that’s actually a great question. On the side he was coming from there was about an eight foot drop off, (too steep for turtle mode) and the direction he was headed had about the same but up. :dontknow:
