2023 Georgia Mountain Rally - May 5th to 7th - All Welcome

The 2023 GMR, hosted by the super-friendly BMW Motorcycle Owners Club of Georgia, returns to the beautiful Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee, Georgia over the May 5th to 7th 2023 weekend. It's an area that offers rewarding twisties, impressive vistas and renowned mountain hospitality. Hiawassee is located just minutes from some of the finest roads in the country, including Deal’s Gap, the Cherohala Skyway, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. For dual sport riding, there are many great forest roads to suit all skill levels.

 

Event registration includes lakeside tent campsites on grass for Friday and Saturday nights (showers and bathrooms on site). Enhanced campsites and RV lots with full hookups, booked directly with the Fairgrounds, are also available.

 

Not a camper? Then take advantage of the many motel/hotel/cabin options with a minute or two of the fairgrounds and use the links on the 2023 GMR Overview & Registration page (link to that just below) for discounted rates at select local motels.

 

Included in the action are Friday chili and Saturday steak dinners, pancake breakfasts Saturday and Sunday, guided road and dual sport rides, seminars, vendors, and plenty of great prizes. Fun and fellowship round out the experience.

THAT would be very apropos at their events, but they still wouldn't talk to you unless it was covered up with a floor length ermine.  Maybe.

If you want into the clique there quickly, the best ways are; 1) buy the latest, greatest, most expensive NEW BMW model you can find, leave the price tag ON it and truck it to the next "luncheon" at La Prad's on the Lake for all to admire, or,  2) fawn, gush, and genuflect obsessively over someone else's garage queen there (not guaranteed to work - it needs to be an off-day).

 

At a "social" in Suches I asked around if someone there could tell me or show me how to set the clock on the new-to-me bike to the left.  I was finally shunted off to the lowest status guy there who was terribly inconvenienced to have to walk twenty feet across the parking lot to my bike while pointing out and talking about how fast "Gene" is.  "He is so FAST, SO fast, SO FAST........".  The last I saw of "Gene" was shortly after leaving when me and a Miata went past "Gene" like he was digging dandelions.

Free BMW Performance Center Training at GMR

 

Quick note that the BMW Performance Center will be providing free off-road training at this year’s Georgia Mountain Rally. The training is offered in a highly interactive two-hour session and there are four timeslots (two Friday and two Saturday) to choose between. The number of participants in each is limited to ensure the best possible experience. To take advantage of this opportunity means you’ll need to both register for the rally and sign-up for one of the training sessions soon avoid disappointment.
