joeb
Hi everyone. One of my buds who I ride with is thinking K1600, . He really likes them. I'm a R guy myself do I don't feel qualified to give an informed opinion. But I know there some smart guys here. 2012 K with 23, 000 miles for $ 8000 or 2016 K with 5400 miles for $ 9000 ? Don't know history of either. Is one year preferable to another? Any glaring issuse we should look out for ? Thanks all Link to comment
MikeB60
The K1600s are great motorcycles. That said there was a issue with some of the 2011 and 2012 engines with respect to issues with pistons. Tell your friend to do a search on the K1600 site there is plenty to read regarding the piston issues. I would suspect that the 2012 with 26000 is ok but I certainly wouldn't shy away from a 2016 with 54000 miles. The 2016 models are well sorted and would be my preference. Maintenance is expensive, at least 1000 USD for the 18000 mile service if you have it done at the dealer. I would suspect that is why the 2016 is on the market as it's due the 18000 mile service. Oh yeah they eat tires as well depending on throttle input. My rears typically last about 5000 miles but I have burned through a couple in 3000 miles. Damn sure had fun though! I own a 2013 with 56000 that outside of two failed coil and a leaking water pump has been great. My shocks were shot at 30000 this is a significant expense and one hell of a lot of work to replace.
