What is the normal and proper charging voltage for a R1100RT and how would you go about checking it? Any and all help would be appreciated. Not much of an electrician so "simple" would certainly help.

Simple starts with a healthy battery.

Depending on how long it has been since the last charge, which includes any extended ride, your battery should show between 12.6 to 13.2 volts. (2.1-2.2 V/cell). Use those numbers as subractives to see if the battery has a bad cell.

The battery voltage may drop into the 10.7 range while cranking the motor but should quickly return into the 12 volt range when the load is removed.

At idle, you may not see the full effect of the charging system but, if you measure the voltage at the battery at around 4000 RPM you should see somewhere between 13.8 and 14.2 volts. This will depend on the components of your voltage regulator. If the voltage is much below that with all your accesories switched on, the first place I would look is the alternator belt, followed by the alternator itself. I believe the voltage regulator is built into the alternator and is not a separate component.
