Perhaps, the US could prioritize and fund usable lithium-less batteries that exceed life, storage and recharge characteristics of lithium. It would be a giant technical achievement and end dependence upon our enemies for lithium.

Great idea, but I doubt it would happen unless the politicians think it will buy them votes.

There’s already plenty of development in non lithium batteries.
