Skywagon
Do you have any experience with it? I'm kind of thinking about buying one to keep in my pocket while riding, boating, fishing, etc. If I understand it correctly the wife could know where I am when out and about. Cheap at $29 versus Garmin and Spot. 1 Link to comment

Cheap at $29 versus Garmin and Spot. Seems like a cheaper alternative than buying "Spot". However, I would expect Spot to locate you out in the boonies (i.e. tracking via Satellite), where as an Apple AIRTAG would check out along with you, about the time you lost your line-of-sight cell signal. Maybe I don't understand the technology, though. Link to comment
Rougarou
if you have an iphone, couldn't she just use the "find my phone" thingy. If you don't and you have an android, isn't there a similar app on the android side? Link to comment
wbw6cos
Most cellular phones have applications for the users to be tracked, with permission and sharing. Cellular service range may impact that ability. For Android, there is an app. Link to comment
Skywagon
Good point. We both have IPhones but the find my phone doesn’t always work. It’s not because we are out of cell range, something like half the time it just doesn’t work Link to comment

Skywagon
Roug.. that’s what I’m afraid of and partially why I started the thread. Probably easier to take back an air tag for a refund than taking back a phone with one app that is flaky I carry a PLB with me but that is only good if you can get to it and activate it. Mike
The AirTag pings through nearby cell phones via Bluetooth and operates through crowdsourcing. It does not independently connect to a cellular network or GPS. https://www.apple.com/airtag/ Link to comment
