Ron58
A few nights ago I was practicing parking lot moves and there was a lot of noise coming from the transmission or clutch or shaft. Tonight I placed the bike on the center stand, started it, put it in gear and let it idle. Same noise and I cannot tell for certain were it's coming from the best description is "clunking" like something is loose in the shaft or clutch. It does not seem to be coming from the transmission. It goes away at speed and there is no vibration or any other indicator anything is wrong. This is my first BMW. I have already been clued in regarding the loud shifts - but this just "don't seem right". Also I note some oil seepage at the gasget joint between engine and transmission. This "don't seem right" either. Can anyone tell me if I have anything to worry about here. I still have warrenty left. But live a long way from the dealer. Thanks Link to comment
RightSpin
Nothing to worry about here, Ron. At idle, there are slight variations in RPM and due to the about of lash between the transmission input shaft and the rear drive, you hear a lot of clanging around happening there. Link to comment
PaulW42
The noise sounds standard. It is very noisy on the centrestand and not a recommended practice. The oil seepage is of more concern. Have a look at this site and do a search: www.ukgser.com/forums . There are quite a few cases of oil seal issues. If you can face it, I would suggest a trip to the dealer before the warranty expires if only for peace of mind. Link to comment
Ron58
Thank you all for the help. So many times getting used to a new bike - especially a different make - is a case of getting used to the different "normal" sounds they emit. I'll be calling for an appointment with my dealer today regarding the seal. Thanks again Ron Link to comment
