Why does the transmission fill plug have a magnet instead of the drain plug?

Seems a bit backwards to me.

Did you look closely at the drain plug? Plugs are different sizes 14mm vs 18mm but my BMW parts book shows them both as magnetic plugs.

The drain plug had a flat surface and no goo. I guess my drain plug could be non OEM, but I doubt it.

Just because the BMW parts book lists it doesn't mean that BMW didn't make a running change & eliminate it during production,  or their supplier couldn't deliver on time for production,  or possibly it was produced without the magnetic drain plug & BMW now only services the magnetic plug as a replacement.

Or possibly some dealer tec dropped it  or damaged it then just grabbed as standard plug from stock to replace the lost or damaged one.
