TSConver Posted September 15, 2021 Share Posted September 15, 2021 Got my 2016 GSA home last night. Rode it home 150 miles. Ran great, rides great. Not sure why I never found this bike before. One of the best rides I have had. Fully loaded. Have some hyperlights and ezcan ordered for it. Also got a Nav VI. What else do I need, must haves? Might be looking for a sergeant seat but that can wait a bit. Also need to mount my radar detector and maybe a phone or sirius receiver, what are you all using to mount stuff? I have techmounts already but need to mount them to the bike. Handlebar tube mounts? Handle bars look tapered do I need special clamps? It is missing the Enduro Pro plug, where can I get one of those? Link to comment

You probably need to to define "where" you want it (look at other similar motorcycles) then see what mounts are available to mount it exactly where you want it. On the Enduro Pro plug, if your motorcycle came with that option it just might be in a recess on the bottom or the front seat (looks like small red cigarette lighter). If your motorcycle didn't some with it then you need to do some research to see IF you can enable it with just a jumper plug (or simple jumper wire) or IF you need to have your dealer enable it then add the Enduro Pro plug to turn it on. It has the GPS Prep kit on it so it is staying above the instrument cluster. More curious on how people mount other accessories. Dealer said it was just missing the plug. Looks like the handlebar clamp is one place and the other is the right brake lever mount. The left lever has a switch over it so I cannot piggyback to that mount. Link to comment

I've not had a spare for the '06 RT, nor the HP4 that I had (neither came with a spare). Still don't carry one for the RT and not carried one for the GSA since I bought it......the plastic thingy is sitting in a drawer in the garage. If I lose the key, any key, I've got a wife, she has a truck and knows how to hook the trailer up and find me I swap gear too much to put it in a single jacket/pants.......you could always duct tape it somewhere on the bike. I play the odds. I've not lost a key to a vehicle in probably three-four decades, so, the odds of losing one now are still fairly slim.......I kinda have a bad habit of actually physically looking at the key in my hand when I move it point to point and have specific places that they go when removed. (at work, on my desk, on top of my Ridge. At home, they stay in the bikes. Stopping on the road, in my pocket) Still not fond of the keyless ride I have a Ridge wallet as well, I dig it, wife surprised me with one a couple years ago Link to comment

I see that you will be at FART... While there, I recommend that you attend Boxflyer's tech session, and in particular, follow along with him as he does the service on the final drive. You can prepare by buying a copper washer and an o-ring for the final drive, and a small quantity (180ml) of fresh gear lube. The primary goal is to discover if your new bike suffers from a rusted junction between the final drive spline and the driveshaft. Hopefully you are able to get them apart. Can I pull it apart without changing the oil in the final drive? Link to comment

Boxflyer uses a small bolt with an o-ring to plug the hole so that the lube is retained when you pivot the FD down. But any expedient hole-plug will suffice. I don’t bother plugging the hole; I prefer to replace the 180ml of lube, even if it is fairly new. The cost of a copper washer, an o-ring and a little gear lube is low enough that I don’t care if it is wasteful. I suppose that voids my membership in the cheap-bastidge club. Cap 1 1 Link to comment

TSConver Posted September 16, 2021 Author Share Posted September 16, 2021 So I just got the service details for it from the dealer that did all the service. Looks like it should not be rusted. The previous owner actually had the drive shaft out in 2018 and could not get it re-engage on the output shaft of the tranny and the dealer had to put it back together. They also said they lubed it at 23k miles for the 24k service. So I will wait and pull it apart after FART. Link to comment

longjohn Posted September 17, 2021 Share Posted September 17, 2021 If you have keyless ride you may want to buy a spare nickel/silver key to operate the top and side cases and seat. I paid $48 from dealer. It took 2-3 days. edit: oh, the gps cradle also is key operated. Link to comment

They decent dual sport tires? I really like the Scorpion II tires but I wouldn't really call them dual sport tires. Tons of grip and great in the rain on the pavement. Definitely in the 90/10 category. My GS is a Starbucks special and has only been of the pavement a few times but if I was interested more dirt I would look for something else. 1 Link to comment
