Groanup
My plan is to leave on Thursday Sept. 23, stop in Mesquite NV for the night and arrive in Torrey on Friday the 24th. I know there are others with a similar plan, and if so (and you've a mind to), you are invited to join me. The ride to Mesquite (for me) will begin with breakfast at The Grizzly Cafe in Wrightwood. (1455 CA-2, Wrightwood, CA 92397) The place opens at 8am. I intend to be there around 8:30. If you'd like to join me for breakfast, either meet me at the Clear Creek turn-out (stands up at 7:30 sharp!) on Angeles Crest Hwy (it should be open by then), or just show up at the Grizzly around 8:30 am. I won't be doing my usual "lolly-gagging". It'll be "eat n go". I'll head to Mesquite after breakfast with a stop in Baker for fuel. Whether you join me or not, it'll probably be hot, so Have water with you. A hydration pack makes it easy to drink while riding. If you have a cooling vest, I suggest bringing it along. I'll be staying the night at The Virgin River Casino. If you'd like to, but don't have reservations there, you can make them online or just get a room that day. If you make reservations online, I suggest going through a third party site like Hotels.com etc. If you do it through the casino's website, you will be charged a $20/night "service fee"... DAMHIK. Hotel.com I just checked (9/13/21), and the casino says no rooms available, but Hotels.com has them at $25/night. The last time I waited till I got there it was $47 because of the "service fee". Act accordingly. I hope to see you somewhere along the way! 1 Link to comment
Rob Nowell
I think I'll just look for you on the Interstate. From Palmdale, going to Wrightwood would be backtracking an hour (x2). I'll be on a blue 2016 RT, wearing a yellow jacket. Be safe. 1 Link to comment

As of right now, Hwy 2 is scheduled to reopen on Sept.15. MORE INFO HERE But as MrDuck said, there is always Big Pines. Edited September 15, 2021 by Groanup added a link Link to comment
longjohn
That’s now been adjusted to the 22nd, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see it extended past that. Link to comment
Groanup
Wouldn't surprise me either. Seems to happen every time I want to take that route on my way somewhere else... Regardless, I'll be at the Grizzly Cafe about 8:30 next Thursday morning. Link to comment
longjohn
I’m not too fond of leaving the house at zero dark thirty, but sometimes I wake up early and can’t get back to sleep. We’ll see. Link to comment

Groanup
Welp, Since nobody seems to know for sure if Angeles Crest is going to be open on Thursday morning, I won't be stopping at Clear Creek. If it's open, I'll just head to Wrightwood. If it's not, I plan on taking the back way through Valyermo. Either way, if you're joining me for breakfast, I'll see you at the Grizzly Cafe around 8:30 am 1 Link to comment
