Torrey Fall 2021?

Recommended Posts

I attended the  fall Torrey gathering back in 2006.  Quite a bit of time has passed since then and I’m ready to get back into travel mode.  Will there be a Fall Torrey 2021?

thanks,

W8NONU (Still in Tulsa, OK)

Yes there will...last full weekend in September

Austin's Chuckwagon once again is "home" but it tends to fill up early and hotels in Torrey also seem to fill around the time we are there .... so if you're thinking about it , you might want to investigate reservations now.

Thanks for the info.  I’m looking forward to another Torrey event.

Hi Whip, didn’t think you would remember me after this much time.  Torrey and Hill Country rides with you and your wife were fun.  I’m working on getting out to Torrey.  Time and logistics are no problem, just some nagging health issues.  It’ll be good to see you guys again.

Reservations have been made.  Chuckwagon was full so we’ll be a few minutes away, but close enough for all the festivities.

I’m IN……and there will be “The Usual Suspects” leaving So Cal on Thursday, overnight in Mesquite, then on to Torrey Friday.
Anybody else care to join us you’re more than welcome, several meet up stops along the way……..

Gonna be another good one

I'll be dropping into Torrey 9/23 from Park City UT.  How can I find out about joining in the festivities?

All you have to do is stop by the Chuckwagon which is "home base" for many of the participants ... Some folks, myself included, do arrive on Thursday.  Most folks will be hanging out in the parking lot or around cabin #9 .  Just introduce yourself ...

Torrey is mostly an unstructured event .  There is no official schedule or sign up or official ride route, etc.  Usually small groups go their own way.   Just ask around and see where folks are heading and in most cases an additional rider is easily accommodated.

Guys - I am on the waiting list for a room/cabin.  If anyone cancels, please let me know.  Cheers!

I'm 99.99% sure I reserved a cabin last Spring. If so there, there would be an empty space for you. I just called to confirm. Waiting for them to call back.

Hi Dennis - I have ulterior motives.  Nick and Neil did not book in the Chuckwagon.  I have a 2 bedroom reserved but hope to find them a room too.  In 2 more weeks I may find out that I am only using one bed if Steve cancels (likely).  At that point if your offer is still open I'll split the cabin with you and give my room to Nick and Neil.   Just trying to keep the young generation in the middle of the fun.

And very kind of you to offer Dennis.  Let's circle back in 2 weeks.

This is about 5 mils south of the Virgin River Gorge...

"ADOT announced this week that starting Wednesday, travel between mile markers 8 and 9 on I-15 through the Beaver Dam and Littlefield communities will be reduced to a single lane in either direction. The lane closures are anticipated to remain in place through spring 2023"

OH MAN!

There has been a shift in lanes there for a few weeks now as they prepare. Early in the morning, or early-afternoon on a weekday will probably be the best times. The little white road labeled 91 will get you around the construction.

91 will only help you if  you intend to take it all the way to St. George.  The construction will be just north of where I-15 crosses 91.  That route is only 12 miles or so longer but you get slowed down with city traffic.  The section of 91 in Arizona from Mesquite to Beaver Dam is short but fun.  The section from Beaver Dam to Utan is straight as an arrow, but the section in Utah (known as Old 91) is a fun motorcycle road.

Keep in mind that if you are going to take 91 you need to exit in Mesquite and pick up Hillside Drive which becomes 91.  The exit near 91 will be backed up since that is very close to the construction.

The smartphone app, called Virgin River Bridge, is now available for free download on Apple and Android devices and can be used to track the latest traffic conditions while on the road or when planning a trip.

On a fast bike, "The Gorge" is a lot of fun. But it has its moments, and they are becoming more common. This is a decent ride, and circumvents The Gorge and St. George. It might even be a few degrees cooler. The only gas is in Enterprise and I think Newcastle. The part around Gunlock is a bit technical.

That would be different. Shouldn't need gas until Panguitch

How's law enforcement along that route?

A little hard to say at this point. We've run across some right close to Beaver Dam.  Mojave County Sheriff and Arizona Highway Patrol both have offices in Beaver Dam to cover this remote and detached part of Arizona. Use extra caution there during school hours.  Other than we rarely see any, but if this bypass becomes an issue things could change.  Utah law enforcement has been pretty much non existent in this area,

It's fairly common, for me, to spot a deputy in the Gunlock and Veyo area.  But they seem to be more focused on what's going on in the little communities instead of traffic.

I'm heading for Torrey on Thursday...  My vote is ya'll get out of Mesquite early enough to be ahead of traffic on the way up, and I'll escort ya'll to Mesquite on the way down.

That's a long ass time to take the I-15 down to one lane each direction.  And usually one of the hottest spots to be stuck in traffic unable to lane split.

Further reason to rejoice that we did not grow up to be heavy equipment operators.

This is my first gig.  Is there any sort of registration/notification I need to take care of?  Don, after St. George, what route do you have in mind, and will you take a different route back to St. George afterward?

We are just not that organized. Never have been never will. Tell us where you're staying, when you plan on getting there, and enjoy.

Sounds like my kind of group.  I'll leave Mesquite Thursday night and go back Sunday.  I have two nights in a cabin at Thousand Lakes RV park, where I stayed the summer of 2020.  I'm wondering about getting to and from the "festivities," because I DO enjoy my beer, but I DON'T ride after any alcohol intake.............period.  Something tells me there "ain't no Uber" there, so I'll bring my walking shoes!!!  Looking forward to making new contacts/friends.

Think 7,000 ft and windy, which probably  won't happen but really sucks when it does.

I’ll be in a suite this go-round, so I’m giving up my thu-fri-sat room above the diner at the Chuckwagon. If you want to coordinate to get the room, chime in here or in a message.

.Groanup has the GPS, so I nominate him for the exalted title of “Fearless Leader!”

We’re leaving So Cal on Thursday, Mesquite over night, ending up in Torrey Friday afternoon…….we have a “ sorta planned route” …….several ways  to get there and back to Mesquite Sunday afternoon…….always an adventure, you will have a good time!
