R1100RT starting problem.

Have ridden 1100's for a long time and loved them all. Recently acquired a 1999 RT in pristine shape. Previous owner meticulous about maintenance and upkeep. Recently did some upgrades which included a new BMW battery and fuel filter. Bike ran well for a few days, then it refused to start. Engine cranked over OK but would not start. Noticed absence of fuel pump revving up and checked fuses. They were all the original Bosch brand and looked AOK. Put them back in, fuel pump cut in OK and bike started normally. This has happened a couple of times again since. My mechanic seems to think it might be a worn fuse. Am worried about the pump quitting on me in traffic or other undesirable situation. Any thoughts on this are welcome.
